Energise Enterprise

Well, that was an interesting month! The Energise Enterprise Small Business Festival Calendar was chock-a-block with great information and exciting events on all sorts of subjects. A big thank you to the speakers that supported My Other Kitchen in presenting some useful and informative topics covering all sorts of subjects, from Networking, Customer Service and Accounting topics to Food Safety and Packaging options. Bernadette from Local Business Network, Paul from Promotional Beverages Australia, Gavin from Gourmet Guardian and Bridgette from Gartly & Associates all gave their time and expertise to make sure you had the opportunity to learn the skills you need to start up a new food business.

Opportunity Knocks

We have been contacted lately by several niche food producers that all have a common problem - how to get their high end, quality product out to a broader customer base. Anyone who knows of a proactive food distributor that deals in small quantities, please get in touch. We have some customers for you! Maybe there is someone out there that would like to start their own distributorship catering to this kind of market. Can you imagine the job description?! Must like talking about food, meeting new people, building relationships (around food), chatting over coffee, helping connect those with a need for quality products with the person that makes them, dealing with passionate, creative cooks and small business people. Don't all rush at once!

In the Kitchen

Customers

So, what do you do when your business plan takes off before you're ready for it? Hit the ground running, find people who believe in the product and are willing to help and support you - quickly! It happened for a new Events Company that started up just over a year ago. Starting off with small jobs and managing out of a small commercial kitchen in an outer suburb, they landed a big contract with a Government Body in the City. Then the work started flowing in... CNK Food Design are now working out of My Other Kitchen for their Events and it won't be long before they gather enough momentum to warrant their own premises! In the meantime, we are happy to have them on board. Especially when their product is worth raving about. Take a look at their website to book your next Event.

Cooking Classes

We have a few classes in the kitchen in September:

Using and demonstrating a Thermomix, Chris Charge will create a lovely Spring menu on Wednesday 8th September consisting of: If you've always wanted to see this amazing machine in action, contact Chris directly to book your place on 0402 234 061 or 9596 6761.

Belucci has officially left August and Abruzzo behind and September sees our classes move into the Region of Campania and Naples - the Capital. Generally accepted as the home of Pizza, how can we not include it on the menu? It has been one of our previous best-sellers and this month is no exception! Start with a fresh frittata of spring vegetables, learn the secrets to a successful pizza dough and discover three traditional toppings (Potato and taleggio, prosciutto and buffalo mozzarella, Bresaola and onions agrodolce), then follow with a rich Honey Semifreddo (ice cream). The class on Wednesday the 1st is closed to enrolments and Saturday the 18th is full, but there are still places available on the 25th and 29th. Make sure you secure your place!

Father's Day
is on Sunday the 5th September and, on Saturday the 11th, Belucci is holding a special Class Just for Dads! (Accompanied children over 11 y.o. are also welcome at a special rate.) See www.italiancookingclass.com.au for more detail and a booking form. Purchase a place on any September class in the week before Father's Day and go into the draw for a chance to win a Hummer for a Day - part of the Bentleigh Traders Association Father's Day Promotion.
